New Student Group, Dodger Ultimate Club Hits the Field
Have you heard of the new student group, Dodger Ultimate Club? Dodger Ultimate Club (DUC) is a group that brings Fort Dodge Senior High students together to play competitive Ultimate. Ultimate is the official name for the game that many refer to as Ultimate Frisbee. It is a non-contact sport played on a field with the same dimensions as a football field. Ultimate is a possession sport played with a disc that is moved down the field from one teammate to another using various throwing techniques. The goal of the sport is to score in the opponents’ end-zone, similar to football. DUC is a member of the Iowa High School Ultimate League which competes against ultimate teams from other Iowa schools, such as: West Des Moines Valley, Dowling, Ames, Marshalltown, Urbandale, Des Moines North, Ankeny, and Johnston.
DUC will be hosting one day of league play on Saturday, May 19 from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Seven teams will be traveling to Fort Dodge to take part in the competition. Games will take place on the practice fields directly south of Dodger Stadium. Please consider attending these games to show your support for this new club and generate community interest in the sport of Ultimate.
Dodger Ultimate Club was started by Senior High Vocal Music Teacher Matt Drees. For questions about DUC or how you can show your support, Mr. Drees can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org or 515-955-1770.
